Musha (Santa Monica) – is one of my favourite restaurants in L.A., partly because the food quality is very consistent and the price is reasonable. After the meal, a nice stroll near the ocean/broadwalk or do some shopping nearby. Each time, we want their signature dish, Flamed Saba, this is a Spanish Mackerel fillet (sashimi style) sliced and then torched at your table.
(Please pardon the background siren noise)
The interior decor is quite stark and minimalist
First course, a trio of veggies, Hijiki seaweed, boiled spinach, Burduk roots…..
Actually, this is more like a spread than a dip…..
M.F.C. – Musha fried chicken, strips of chicken meat marinated with soy sauce, sake, ginger & garlic…..
Ikamen – squid sashimi with spicy Pollock caviar…..
Anago meshi – glazed sea eel, Hijiki seaweed & Mitsuba leaf, rice, mixed in a hot stone bowl…..
The entire dinner costs approximately $30 per person (including gratuities). We were too stuffed after all these savory dishes, so no dessert. Instead, we opted for window shopping around the corner!

Really nice pictures & their presentation is really neat. That siren made the flamed saba a little more dramatic haha.
oh wow, pretty decent prices considering most of the other food you post!
@stepaside_loser - Haha~good point, I need some drama moments to my food porn entries. I’ll try to add more video entries in the future.
@happyobligations - That true though, hehehe……but for someone with a huge appetite, this may make a huge dent to the budget! By the way, did you know Jin Patisserie has closed their location in Venice?
@CurryPuffy - oh really? do you know why?
that looks delicious.. drooling right now. what’s the sauce in the anago meshi?
I love the background noise because I think I heard your voices!
p.s. you could have showed the waiter’s face… you tease us with food porn but no waiter porn.
@happyobligations - The owner told me the landlord jacked up the rents to an unreasonable amount, forcing her business to relocate.
@ElusiveWords - Well, at least I tried to catch a glimpse of him. But he’s kinda shy and dashed away before I could get a steady shot!
@iskrak - It’s some sort of teriyaki and plum sauce, which added a hint of sweetness to the whole mix!
I really enjoyed the video; it was very nice. The mentioning of Saba makes me think of the anime Nichijou. In one episode Yuko was supposed to give her friend Mio yakisoba, but got her yakisaba instead, haha!
So while I was reading your entry… I was thinking:
‘remember how on April Fools day, Google launched Google Smell?
I wish that it were real, so maybe I would be able to just press my nose against your pictures and smell how good everything was. It would be the next best thing to eating it, with the video trailing in with a third.’
@making_a_comeback_05 - Haha~what a difference just one little vowel makes!
That might be achieved some day, plus 3 or 4 dimensional images! That would be very delicious
As usual great pictures. The way the food is presented, is very appealing.
@CurryPuffy - Indeed!
i like hijiki. it’s probably one of the most expensive seaweeds out there.
Wow, everything looks scrumptious the food looks nicely presented.
lovely dinner, the veggie trio reminds me of my first try with the Burduk Roots – the Rice Burger with Burduck Roots at MOS Burger when it first open in Hong Kong few years ago
@agmhkg – I heard good things about Mos Burger, would love to try that too!
@unpolishedreality – I’m glad you like the food porn!
@rudyhou – You have good tastes, Rudy!!
Burdock root I have eaten and alway thought it was Japanese. According to wikipedia Burdock is also in European herbals and even the Chinese eat it.
The burs on Burdock gave the inventor a clue on how to make velcro. I have seen wild burrs and hope to find a garden with Burdock purposely grown.
$30 a person, wow that isnt bad at all. I think I must visit. Actually I have a friend visiting and i’ve been craving sushi.
Thank you for the date idea.
@VNlilMAN - Yeah, the food is delicious. Do call and book a time during the weekends, the place gets crowded really quick.
