Good Morning HKG!- Having Hong Kong style breakfast early in the morning is always interesting, since you’ll get to see the city before the streets are jam packed with commuters. One morning, me + @christao408 + @rudyhou went for a quick breakfast at this Tsui Wah Restaurant on Wellington Street, Central District. This restaurant has been in business for several generations and they have branches all over Hong Kong.
A rather huge bowl of oatmeal, Hong Kong style + milk tea……
Chris explaining the virtues of having oatmeal for breakfast…..
Rudy’s dish, beef with instant noodles…..
The milk tea is delicious, and the buttered buns as well…..
On another early morning, me + christao408 + rudyhou + @beowulf222 went to Lan Fong Yuen for breakfast. This place is another popular eatery for local “hole-in-the-wall” cuisine…..
Recognize these people? I guess one of them is Chow Yun Fat (think of that Crouching Tiger movie), the other photo has this local food critic with the owners…..
Chris is documenting his breakfast…..
Mr.Beowulf is prepping his film camera…..
Milk tea+macaroni+sausage & fried egg, quite an interesting combination…..
The very famous fried pork chop and buns…..
Milk tea and French toast combo…..
After breakfast, we parted ways, I ventured into the nearby streets, the local market is quite busy…..
Some of the shops are still too early to open for business…..
I wandered up the Stone Step Street and headed for home…..

Ooo… more pictures please! It’s great to see you all together.
I miss those pork chop baos
I love hk tea. The place looks familar… were you at Sai Ying Pun?
You’ve shown better food of course, but I can relate to the experience. Nothing like some of those ‘hole-in-the-wall’ places.
those buttered buns look delicious
interestingly, I’ve never been to the Lan Fong Yuen in Central eventough I hang around that area quite often..
I never got to eat amazing HK food when I went there. My friends kinda hated the trip cos all they did was eat the food sold at 711. I felt bad cos they weren’t that adventurous enough to try local joints. I want to go back one day cos I know HK is a great place for a food trip but the thing I don’t like is that majority of menus are in Chinese.
I hope you enjoyed the get together. Great pictures!
@ElusiveWords - I hope that will tickle your curiosity, Matt!
@CaKaLusa - Those are yummy but the serving size is quite small.
@Got_Takoyaki - I was at Central District, Hong Kong Island.
@n_e_i_l - Thanks! I’m glad you like my food porn!
@happyobligations - I’d like to eat a few more, but that would certainly make me very full! I need to leave room for other meals later. LoL
@agmhkg - Oh I see, you should try someday! But I realize every time you stopped by HKG, there are always nicer places to try out!
@oxyGENE_08 - Gene, I’ll be glad to show you around when I’m in HK, so do visit someday!
Looks like Rudy and I are about to get into a fist fight! LOL
the virtues of having oatmeal?? hahaha… i think i lost the fight. i mean, just look at his face. he looks as if he’s about to throw a fit at me. LOL.
@oxyGENE_08 - you certainly did not travel with the right people. HK = food. that’s what one does when in HK.
@rudyhou - @christao408 - Haha~~That was what they called, a “Kodak moment”, I suppose?
Nom!! I lived walking distance from this area and this makes me miss it so much. Macaroni is by far my favourite Asian breakfast meal.
@mizz_chan - I do miss the place too, especially the milk tea, nowhere else could duplicate the same kind of taste and texture.
Your post reminded me to mention I found out that Orris just closed. I never got to even try it. But then I looked up on yelp that there is a Spaghetti House by Orris. so is it the same thing as Orris now? Since I shoot businesses for Google now, I’m at a good position to try the products for businesses I may shoot for so I wanna try theirs, lol.
@alchemystfury - Apparently, there was not enough revenue to sustain the Orris operation, therefore , the chef is trying something more “down to earth”. I have tried their speghetti, which is okay, nothing like the old Orris. But take a look at their daily special, which may bring back one or two Orris dishes
@alchemystfury - One more thing, I have also heard Chef Yamashiro (the head chef of Orris) may not stay long at that location, so something else may pop up too.
The fried pork chop on buns looks so good!!
this post completely made me miss hk in so many ways… and def miss tsui wah!
@making_a_comeback_05 - Yes, very delicious! *nom nom*
@suuperstar - I like their milk tea and coffee!
