Song of the Day
奢求想回去…
走走我熟悉的路…
呼吸屬於自己的空氣..
踩踩和自己一起長大的沙灘…
做自己喜歡做的東西…什麼時候能做得到…
WEBLOG – MAY 12, 2009 – My beloved guinea pig ‘Siu Mai’ passed away in her sleep. During the past few days, she refused to eat anything, sitting at one corner trembling. The medicine did not help at all and perhaps too late at this stage of her illness.
R.I.P. my little colourful piggie.
WEBLOG – MAY 22-25, 2009 – Since Monday the 25th was a holiday, we headed north to San Francisco to visit the newly restored Academy of Sciences and also to try out Alice Waters’ eatery Chez Panisse, where their food is organically grown and harvested in ways that are ecologically sound. (All but two foodie photos courtesy of W).Dreary weather in the low 50′s and windy as well…
Farmer’s Market @ The Ferry Building with the usual crowd…
Bought a pound of these delicious organic cherries…
Quick meal at the Hog Island Oyster eatery, fresh brewed lemonade…
Oyster stew – creamy broth with meaty oysters…
Baked oysters come in samples of three…
Delicious cupcakes from Miette…
The exterior of the Academy of Sciences looked plain, but the interior is huge…
There were people in every corner…
The cafeteria has a wide variety of food, chicken pho is quite good for a chilly day…
Spring roll, very sumptuous with shrimp and pork…
Roof-top garden, which is part of the huge roof…
Albino crocodile…cute turtles…beetles…eel…
Lunch @ Chez Panisse in Berkerley…
Avocado and beets with citrus vinaigrette…
Grilled pork leg with asparagus, roasted potatoes, rosemary and sage…
Soul Food Farm chicken leg al mattone with celery root salad and fried potatoes…
Creme fraiche ice cream with roasted blueberries and ricciarelli cookies…
We had dinner at this cozy restaurant on Clement…
Nan Gyi Dok (Mild Coconut Chicken Rice Noodle Curry), Burmese rice noodles with a mild chicken coconut…
Stir fried shrimp with fresh mangoes with a light chili basil sauce…
Overall, the luncheon at Chez Panisse is well worth the trip, although the category of food offered is not that extraordinary.
It costs approximately US$35 per person. Dinner at Burma Superstar was cheap by comparison (half of what we paid at Chez
Panissee), but the wait time was almost 45 minutes, even though we called in advance to put our names on the waiting list.
Till Doomsday, The Ferry Building will always be one of my favourite haunt.

That is surely a fun trip! I ate at Chez Panisse once and the meal was indeed very delicous. I need to take time to enjoy the other restaurants you metioned. Pho at the Academy would be comfy for the cool weather here in SF.
好耐無見你的post. . .美味依然^^
有時見你的中文. . .字裹行間,確實流露感性真我!

On my next trip up north, I think I’ll tour the wineries. There are so many sight seeing spots near SF! The food at Chez P. sure tastes much fresher and different. Do go early if you’re heading for Burma Superstar, we were standing outside in the cold for a long time.

I’m glad my entries touched you and make you salivate at the same time! Hey, how’s the food up in Shanghai?
I’m sorry to hear that your guinea pig passed.
@brooklyn2028 -
Thank you Sheldon for your condolences, ‘siu mai’ went quickly overnight during her sleep. Now there’s only one piggy left – ‘ling ling’ (siu mai’s little sister)….
I wasn’t too impressed with Burma superstar…
It’s good, but too pricy for what it had to offer.
And you were really lucky to see the albino alligator move about!
everytime I go there it’s napping
Sorry to hear about siumai ><
I am hungry now…XD
@Wangium -
Haha~~probably we went before the croc napping time which is in the afternoon time? Hey, maybe you can show me another eatery with a more reasonable price, but has to be tasty!
@zozoyork -
It’s alright now since I have passed mourning over it! I’ll have pet fishes next time, it’s easier to dispose of in the event of death! waahaahaa…..
Are you still here?
If so, what kind of food are you looking for?
@Wangium -
Well, I love dim sum…dumplings…siao lone bao’s or something similar to Burmese food? LOL
Try:
Koi Palace
It’s in Daly City, but it’s the best dim sum in the Bay area…
It’s a little sad that most dim sum in SF sucks, compared to LA, but Koi Palace really is one of the best I’ve ever had
@Wangium -
Thank you for the recommendation! I’ll venture into Daly City and find this Koi Palace on my next visit! *rubbing tummy*
bring me to the wineries too!!! anyway miss SF so much >.< i wanna go back sooner… and cant wait for all the yummy food you had tried =p
希望你可以做你自己喜歡的事情哦
大膽的走出第一步
雖然剛開始會有點困難
但接下來的步驟就會很容易的了
all the best
Thanks for the encouragement FuFu…by the way, have a nice trip to the Silk Road. That’s something I would very much love to do someday!
@Wangium - Koi Palace is really good!
Gary, sorry to hear about your pig’s passing. Always nice to see your visits to SF. I miss the berries and stone fruits. When I’m back in the US this summer, that’s all I’m going to eat! Burma Superstar was pretty decent several years ago when I lived there, but haven’t been back in a long time.
So Chez P was worth the money?
@christao408 -
The organic cherries are quite pricey @ $7 per lb. but worth every penny, they’re juicy n’ sweet. I think cherries are not readily abundant in BKK? Anyways, Chez P was very worth it, everything they served was very fresh!
Sorry to hear about Xiao Mai. Again delicious food porn. Hope to see you in L.A. My film will be playing there in July. Hope u can make it!
@curry69curry - Other than one strain of really disappointing peaches grown up north, we have no stone fruits at all. All have to be imported = lower quality, higher prices.
@snowjunky8 -
I hope by now ‘siu mai’ is in guinea pig heaven! Oh, good, see you in July!
didn’t know you can make pho with chicken.. I hope they are pre-cooked chicken so you won’t get sick
@YNOTswim -
They’re mostly white meat chicken (per-cooked), good on a cold day especially after standing in line for almost an hour to get inside the museum !
So sorry to hear about your little pet!! RIP
@CareyGLY -
Thank you Carey for your condolences. I have just acquired four mini Robo hamsters at PetsMart last weekend! (15% off sale) LOL
Awww… I’m sorry to hear about your pet’s passing.
Your food pics, as usual, are very impressive. I like chicken pho too – sometimes more so than beef.
@ElusiveWords -
Thank you Matt for your condolences. After trying a few bowls of chicken pho in Vietnam, I’m quite addicted to it too. Have you tried making them at home? A small bowl of chicken pho will be really good for a late night snack. *drooling*
hm…..SFO….just knowing that I will have 6 days off in JUL. thinking of making a short trip either to Toronto, Las Vegas, LA. SFO sounds like not a bad choice either….
@agmhkg -
Vegas should be more fun if you like Black Jack or slot machines, shows etc. There are a few nice gourmet restaurants there too. But it’ll be very very hot there in July. SFO and Toronto will be nice and toasty. Have a good holiday!
