Valentine’s Dinner (Part I) at Maison Akira – Since V-Day falls on a week night this time around, we picked a place closer to our home base, avoiding the infamous LA commuter traffic. Maison Akira was the sensible choice. We are no stranger to this restaurant, having the pleasure of dining here during Dine LA Week 2012. (see entry)
Maison Akira serves French/Japanese fusion cuisine, and has been an establishment in the Pasadena area for almost twenty years.
The design of the menu reminds us of this special event…..
Amuse-bouche – scallop tartare…..
House smoked salmon and caviar…..
Grilled miso marinated Chilean sea bass and grilled prawn…..
Maple leaf duck breast a l’orange sauce…..
Valentine’s dessert to share…..
The dinner was short but sweet. If I had not seen the menu, I’d thought it was more like a prix-fixe business type dinner. The dessert items were sure the highlight of the meal. More on Part II later…..

Great pictures of wonderful food. I go for the dessert always.
Yummy
V-day food porn! haha
I never go out to eat on Valentine’s Day. You pay MUCH more for what is usually lower quality food. The restaurant is always booked to capacity and I just cannot imagine anyone dining out on the actual day for the the sake of celebrating what’s essentially a made-up holiday.
@ZSA_MD - Thank you, Zakiah. I like the desserts too!
@stevew918 - I’m glad you like the Valentine food porn!
@oxyGENE_08 - Haha~just look at those hearts napkins and menu, so funny!
@Xx_DeUce_xX - I guess you do have a point, cooking up a romantic meal at home plus no (minimal) dress code required sound quite desirable indeed!
I like the menu design. The smoked salmon looks so good, as well as the chowder. And that chilean sea bass and prawn, WOW!! The desserts look quite yummy, as well.
@making_a_comeback_05 - It was a short meal, but enough to induce a brief food coma!
@CurryPuffy -
“minimal dress code”? ^ ^
It’s great that you guys are able to set aside time for dinners. It’s not easy to find time.
@ElusiveWords - Yes, especially on a week night!
@ElusiveWords - Haha~you sure catch on the idea pretty quick! LOL
i think the best fusion in cuisine is the french-japanese combo. they work so well together as both required a balanced blend of sophistication and traditions and innovative skills. though japanese-mediterranean combo would work just as wonderful.
