Dinner Double @ Lazy Ox Canteen - we happened to dine at this place twice within a few weeks apart. The tapas style cuisine and reasonable prices make this quite a popular spot in town.
Yellow tail crudo, with scallion, grapefruit and papaya salad…..
Roasted bone marrow, horseradish cream and tobiko…..
Okra with hazelnuts, lebni and chile…..
Black Tuscan kale salad, apples, preserved lemons and rosemary emulsion…..
Pig ear “chicharon” and horseradish dip…..
8 oz. Lazy Ox burger and fries…..
Roasted leg of lamb, potato and kale…..
A few weeks later, we had Happy Hour dinner, I forgot to bring along the big camera, therefore, have to rely on the trusty little camera phone…..
Lace battered surf clams, lime and caper-pickle dip…..
Boquerones, tomaca amb olives…..
Beer braised grilled octopus, tomato confit and moscatel vinagreta…..
It was quite a filling dinner, especially after we finished the meaty octopus dish. No room for dessert, perhaps on another visit!

Mmmm!!
One thing I have been wondering all along is how you can eat all this and not be huuuuge. LOL
Is it normal to have bone marrow as a dish in itself? How did it taste? Yummy?
@beowulf222 - I think he’s one of those annoying people that eats a lot and doesn’t gain a pound! Haha
The food looks delicious, but all I can think about is the design of their menu. It looks awesome!
@stepaside_loser – To eat bone marrow on crispy bread is considered a delicacy back home. It’s a very flavorful fatty taste. I am not a fan of it.
@slmret - Mmmm indeed!
@beowulf222 - Nick, it’s the Asian gene, I suppose?
@stepaside_loser - Haha, I gained some but you’ll never see where!
@secade - You mean the Social Hour menu?
@beowulf222 - @stepaside_loser - I just had half a small spoonful of bone marrow, and that was good enough! Not a fan too!
@CurryPuffy - Well, I have seen my share of fat Asians. *haha* But good for you that you can eat a lot whereas I already gain by looking at the pictures.
The Tuscan kale salad and the okra with hazelnuts and strained dahi. I think I would like to make that. Every thing else looks so good as usual.
Somehow, I always make the bad decision to blog/check up on blogs late at night…
The time when looking at beautiful/delicious food can make someone do terrible things to their diet.
How much did you end up spending?
I am not the type of person who is prone to swear on the internet, but OH MY Freaking Gosh!!! Those dishes look and sound simply delightful!!!
Is the first place right by Pinkberry?
@ZSA_MD - I somehow know you like the veggie dishes, Zakiah!! Yummmy!!
@Devilzgaysianboi - About $30 something per person. Let me know next time when you swing over to LA, we’ll have an eating feast!
@Aloysius_son - I’m glad you like the food porn!
@Wangium - These were all from the same restaurant; Pinkberry is about one block to the west.
omg it just looks like art
i want them ALL in my mouth. right now!!
@happyobligations - Which one looks like art? The Zen Ox?
@rudyhou - Ooh, that would make too much a mouthful! LoL
@CurryPuffy - everything!
Gosh, I just got back home from a long day at work. The food looks so yummy. I’ve never had Okra before so I’m curious to how it tastes.
@brooklyn2028 - Okra has a slight crispy texture on the first bite, but once you have it chewing inside your mouth, it changes to a sticky and gluey texture. Sounds kinda repulsive? LoL
@CurryPuffy - That definitely doesn’t sound very appetizing.
I’m very curious about that bone marrow dish as well. I’m not a fan of okra. I remember having it as a kid and didn’t develop a liking for it.
I notice you always have different pictures in your responses to comments – nice!
@ElusiveWords - Yes, okra has a different texture, that’s one of W’s favourite dishes too. Bone marrow is mostly fatty cells, a small spoonful will be enough for me though. As for the photos, these are all W’s snap shots!
a very fine Canteen indeed….., look very delicous….
