Song of the Day
It’s that time of year again! dineLA Restaurant Week is here. This time with over 200 Southern California restaurants participating, and affordably priced three course-meals ranging from $16 – $28 for lunch and $26 – $44 for dinner. We have been absolutely aching for a meal at one of L.A.’s top eateries, but just haven’t been feeling like the budget is allowing it these days, therefore seizing the moment, we booked a table for lunch at Fords Filling Station. From the restaurant’s website – “Chef Ben Ford’s gastropub in Culver City utilizes the finest local ingredients to prove that truly good food doesn’t have to be overly complicated.” The menu for dineLA is not too complicated, choice of three courses in a set menu…It’s quite rare these days to come across the Chef’s humble philosophy on the menu…
Mussels – stewed in Charred Tomato Garlic Sauce…
Grapefruit Salad with Upland Cress, Avocado and Almonds. Very refreshing…
Salmon Salad Sandwich with Garlic-herb Fries…
Marinated Bistro Steak, with Wild Mushroom Bread Pudding and Mizuna Salad. I like my meat done medium well…
Roasted Kabocha Squash Bread Pudding with Caramelized Sugar Ice-cream…
Pecan Tart with Maple Syrup Ice-cream…
The lunch costs US$22 per person, plus service charge. Overall, the Salmon tasted flat but the fries turned out to be a real ace of the dish. I could not stop myself from ‘stealing’ the fries from W’s plate. As a whole, this place gave me an impression of good ol’ American cooking, and I’m very much curious to try their breakfast menu next time around.
Time for some Asian Porn – This is a totally different kind of “porn” from the ones you imagined, it does not involve any hairy butted (or hairy-backed) -ugly men doing super hot girls, or vice versa. What I have here is much more enjoyable and quite orgasmic to watch… Just look at this pile up of delicious Chinese appetizer, sliced seasoned tofu, green and red peppers, mushrooms, etc…Succulent, spicy, rich and tasty…
Such a bunch of beauties, those irresistible mini-dumplings in close-up mode…
Mr.Wonton…comes thinly wrapped, in perfect form and full of meat…
Perfectly cooked shrimp fried rice, just the right amount of seasoning. Oh my!
The must-have item – Ding Tai Fung’s signature dish, Steamed Crab Meat and Pork Dumplings. These are indeed sinful pieces of pleasure…
I caught this person bootlegging the food orgy…
The above meal costs about US$15 per person. We were too full to finish the Shrimp Fried Rice, so that’s enough left over for another meal later in the day. Ding Tai Fung is a good bet for a Sunday lunch, especially gathering with out-of-town friends.
Japanese prefer to do it neat and clean, each and every piece perfectly assembled and color coordinated. Here, Sushi Combo…
My favourite item, Chirashizushi…
The hand rolls are so perfectly wrapped, crispy on the outside…
This simple dinner costs around US$15 per person, plus service charge. Hide Sushi is perched amongst the boutique shops and restaurants along the Sawtelle area of West Los Angeles, and this sushi eatery has been a reliable place for reasonably priced dishes since the late 1980s.

Now THAT is my type of porn, Gary! =D
Ah, I thought so! Too bad the Thai food here in LA is not quite up to par when compared to those of BKK. Otherwise, I’ll have no shame to present more of those! LOL
You really don’t eat like this every day? hahahaha….
I like your Asian porn and the “western” one too.

I’m glad you are satisfied with this week’s food porn, and got a good dose of foodgasm!

Ah Ding Tai Fung … G went crazy there in Shanghai a while back
Omg thanks for reminding me about Restaurant week! Any recommendations?
And I love Ford’s filling station. But it’s sad because every time I want to go there,I always end up going to Tendergreens because it’s cheaper lol.

That’s right, Brent. This time around, it seems to me there are quite a large number of restaurants participating. I think there’s a Ding Tai Fung in Seoul as well.
@Rm2046 -
For restaurant week, try something in Venice, such as Joe’s, we had a lovely brunch there a couple of times. Tendergreens? That’s a pretty good eatery, very popular place too!

I do miss the Japanese style fried rice at din tai fung :-
Maybe next time I am in town I should schedule for a visit
I’ve got a question…do you like to eat out a lot or do you go to those dinners on special occasions?
@Wangium -
Good idea! Let me know when so that I can join too, I’ll never pass up a good meal! LOL. I’m lazy to cook, so I like to eat out quite a lot. But very seldom splurging on expensive meals.
It’s a good thing I only see you a couple of times a year. Otherwise I’d be 400 pounds!
lovely, reminds me of the Dine Out Vancouver early next year!!! Yum!
