  • Song of the Day

It’s that time of year again! dineLA Restaurant Week is here. This time with over 200 Southern California restaurants participating, and affordably priced three course-meals ranging from $16 – $28 for lunch and $26 – $44 for dinner. We have been absolutely aching for a meal at one of L.A.’s top eateries, but just haven’t been feeling like the budget is allowing it these days, therefore seizing the moment, we booked a table for lunch at Fords Filling Station. From the restaurant’s website – “Chef Ben Ford’s gastropub in Culver City utilizes the finest local ingredients to prove that truly good food doesn’t have to be overly complicated.”

The menu for dineLA is not too complicated, choice of three courses in a set menu…It’s quite rare these days to come across the Chef’s humble philosophy on the menu…

The lunch costs US$22 per person, plus service charge. Overall, the Salmon tasted flat but the fries turned out to be a real ace of the dish. I could not stop myself from ‘stealing’ the fries from W’s plate. As a whole, this place gave me an impression of good ol’ American cooking, and I’m very much curious to try their breakfast menu next time around.

Time for some Asian Porn – This is a totally different kind of “porn” from the ones you imagined, it does not involve any hairy butted (or hairy-backed) -ugly men doing super hot girls, or vice versa. What I have here is much more enjoyable and quite orgasmic to watch…

Just look at this pile up of delicious Chinese appetizer, sliced seasoned tofu, green and red peppers, mushrooms, etc…Succulent, spicy, rich and tasty…

Such a bunch of beauties, those irresistible mini-dumplings in close-up mode…

Perfectly cooked shrimp fried rice, just the right amount of seasoning. Oh my!

The must-have item – Ding Tai Fung’s signature dish, Steamed Crab Meat and Pork Dumplings. These are indeed sinful pieces of pleasure…

I caught this person bootlegging the food orgy…

The above meal costs about US$15 per person. We were too full to finish the Shrimp Fried Rice, so that’s enough left over for another meal later in the day. Ding Tai Fung is a good bet for a Sunday lunch, especially gathering with out-of-town friends.

Japanese prefer to do it neat and clean, each and every piece perfectly assembled and color coordinated. Here, Sushi Combo…

    My favourite item, Chirashizushi…

The hand rolls are so perfectly wrapped, crispy on the outside…

This simple dinner costs around US$15 per person, plus service charge. Hide Sushi is perched amongst the boutique shops and restaurants along the Sawtelle area of West Los Angeles, and this sushi eatery has been a reliable place for reasonably priced dishes since the late 1980s.
