  • L.A. Eats – Night + Market - One Sunday, while we were shopping near a trendy neighborhood in Sunset Strip, West Hollywood, we came across this Thai restaurant. Its name reminded me of my fun days trotting around Bangkok, eating at open air restaurants and street stalls, etc.

By the way, please pardon the quality of the following images, I relied on my trusty little camera phone throughout this meal.

The interior decor reflects minimalism. Interestly enough, the video wall showing the Wimbledon Mens final, circa 2008 throughout the meal. I guess this is an authentic Thai street food place, with grubby metal plates and spoons; notice they also pay homage to the beloved Thai King & Queen (high up on the side wall)…..

Fried pig tails, crunchy and surprisely soft, like chewing into soft bones and tendons…..

Sai Uah – Chiengrai herb sausage, spicy with a hint of sweetness…..

Neua Jim Jaew – Angus prime hanger steak, grilled and served with jaew sauce…..

Panang En Neua – beef tendon Panang with roti…..

The final tab is not cheap for a typical Thai dinner, partly because this place is located in a high rent district. Most of their clientele are westside ‘farangs’ (foreigner in Thai), aside from serving palate pleasing dishes, the decor needs to be trendy & cutting edge in order to attract business; which is a stark contrast compared to the Thai restaurants in Thai Town, which are mostly ‘hole in the wall’ types and frequented by a good percentage of Asian diners. Anyway, this Night + Market will be a good venture, introducing Thai style street food into this neighborhood.

I almost burst into laughter when I overheard one of the diners asking the server,”Are those two photos on the wall the owners of this restaurant?”

“No sir, they are the King and Queen of Thailand!”

“Oh, I see…”, the diner chuckles in embarrassment.
