Taipei…..random eats…..During our three-day stay in Taipei, we stumbled upon this place…..

The restaurant furniture all sourced from actual bathroom fixtures…..

Soft drinks are served in a mini-sized urinary and food served in a “squat toilet” shaped bowl…..

Take a closer look, the scoop of soft ice-cream is shaped like a pile of poop…..

I don’t think the “chairs” are comfortable, but it was quite fun eating there…..

Coffee Alley has branches all over Taipei, there’s one near our hotel. The menu is just like a newspaper spread…..

Ice tea with fresh fruit (left) and Red bean with iced coconut milk…..

Close-up of ice tea, with chunks of fresh fruit…..

Ice cream with cotton candy & expresso…..

Pour the expresso onto the cotton candy…..

Watch to find out what happens next…..

I’ve seen that toilet restaurant before. IDK if I’d eat there though. My mind wouldn’t allow it.
That cotton candy ice cream looks good though!
Well, interesting ambiance. I hope they scrubbed the bowls properly. LOL
I Want That Ice cream with cotton candy & expresso. NOW.
oh wow. the video was so magical.
The iced coconut milk sounds delicious.
but Gary, I don’t think I will go to the Modern Toilet when I visit Taipei. Just not appealing to me to get food from the toilet bowls.
@CaKaLusa - I think you’ll like the cotton candy cafe, they have lots of yummy desserts and shaved ice too!
@beowulf222 - Haha~I have inspected most of the seating and tables, all 100% brand new. The food was just okay, I went for the sake of curiosity. Too bad I forgot to inspect their WC.
@manmantong2000 - Me too! LOL
@ZSA_MD - I think so too…..there are lots of good eateries all over Taipei; I only touched on the tip of an iceberg!
yeah, it’s the IN thing right now. it originated from Japan, if i’m not mistaken. interesting, isn’t it?
I’ve always wanted to go there
I think I’d feel a bit cheated to watch my dessert melt away before my very eyes! =(
@rudyhou - Most of the stuff I encountered in Taipei reminded me of Japan actually.
Especially the cozy city streets in some of the neighborhoods.
@oxyGENE_08 - Gene, of all the people here, you live closest to Taiwan! Only a couple of hours away, right?
@christao408 - Yeah Chris, I was mumbling,”where’s my cotton candy?” LOL…By the way, are you enjoying the Ferry Building in SF? Any plans of flying down to LA?
@CurryPuffy - Alas, no time for LA on this trip. We’ve visited LA the past two visits and left SF in the cold so this time we’re switching it up.
Haha did u try the same toilet restaurant at the CWB a few years ago?
@agmhkg - I’d like to try that, you know where exactly it is at?
@CurryPuffy - 2 hours. Haha I’m just a wee bit scared cos I don’t speak Chinese.
i think i’ve heard of that modern toilet restaurant somewhere… maybe i saw it on tv? anyway, i’m not sure it’s really an appealing concept haha. coffee alley looks good though!
@CurryPuffy - it used to be at the 3rd floor of Todays’ Forever 21…..not sure if they have moved out of HKG or not….
@kunhuo42 - Haha~I was feeling a bit uneasy too sitting on a stool, eating and drinking away!
The Modern Toilet certainly is interesting. I find the theme intriguing, since it’s different from a normal restaurant. The video was pretty cool. Nice pics as usual!
I’ve heard of that shop in Taiwan. I wanted to visit it the last time I’ve been there, but didn’t get a chance to go there!
@making_a_comeback_05 - Thanks for the compliments, I still want to eat there again, trying other items on their menu. LOL
@dawn_1o9 - There’s always a next time around!
I love that espresso cotton candy ice cream combination! I never thought I would ever see a picture of you sitting on a toilet. hahaha…
You have a video of the hotel room – wow! You sure know how to travel in style. With everything so open, aren’t insects a problem?
@ElusiveWords - Haha, Matt, that’s right, I think this will be my only “sitting on the toilet” photo! By the way, I posted that video as one of my first tries of uploading from my phone directly to YouTube. (And you found it!)
Insects? Yes, there are many species of flying/crawling insects all over, and that would make an entomologist very happy! As I was having breakfast one morning, a mud wasp was busy at making a small nest right underneath W’s chair. I could see it carrying the mud and slowing building it up. And that was quite an interesting sight!
@CurryPuffy - omg… I would freak out if I had to sleep with all these insects. p.s. it wasn’t hard to find your video. I just click on the more info in the top right or copy the URL. Did you use your DSLR to record the videos?
@ElusiveWords - Oh, that’s no problem since you’ll sleep inside a mosquito net which drapes/covers the whole bed. There’s a/c in the room, so all the doors and windows are closed. Unless you wander to the outside at night, you’ll find a lot of things creeping around (we encounter a huge green gekco/lizard perching outside our room the other night), but that’s part of the excitment of travel, right?
All the videos were from the iphone4s, I think the outcome would be better using a DSLR.
Haha… Yeah the toilet-themed restaurant…
I have never been. I don’t know, just not quite attracted to it?!?!
@yang1815 - It was fun just to have a quick dessert!
